Five restaurants or kitchens in South Mississippi have a C from the state health department for critical violations over the last two weeks.
Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.
Since Aug. 25, the health department gave As 145 As to restaurants, school kitchens and other food facilities in District 9, along with 33 Bs and 5 Cs.
Those who scored a C are:
Wendy’s at 9455 U.S. 49, Gulfport had a scheduled inspection Sept. 1. The fast food restaurant was cited for:
- Insects, rodents or animals present
- Last inspection report not posted
Corrected during the inspection was time as a public health control, procedures and records, which is required to assure food is fresh and kept proper temperatures.
This is the restaurant’s first C dating back to 2017.
Monchies Locos Burger Basket, 3309 Chicot St., Pascagoula was inspected for a permit on Sept, 7.
It was cited for:
- No certified manager
- No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty
- No management awareness policy present
- Food not separated and protected
First C dating back to 2019
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, 11240 U.S. 49, Gulfport had a scheduled inspection on Sept. 8
The kitchen was cited for :
- Improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use, a repeat offense
- Improper cold holding temperatures
- Last inspection report not posted
Corrected during the inspection were:
- Toxic substance propertly identified, store and used
- Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
This was the second C dating back to 2014
Windance Country Club, 19385 Champion Circle, Gulfport, was inspected Aug. 30 for a permit.
It was cited for improper date marking and disposition, a repeat violation.
Corrected during the inspection were:
- Food in good condition, safe and unadulterated
- Adequate Hand Washing Facilities Supplied Accessible
- Last inspection grade posted
At a follow-up inspection on Sept. 8, all violations were corrected and the kitchen was given a B grade
This was the kitchen’s first C since 2012
McHenry Avenue Nutrition, 83 McHenry Ave., McHenry, was cited for having no permit.
It was inspected Sept. 8 and received an A for no violations.
