Robert Yacone, 59, co-owner of popular Italian restaurant Forghedaboutit in Deming and Las Cruces, is accused of killing his wife, Kimberly Yacone, 48, at their Pichacho Hills home in Las Cruces on Sunday. Kimberly also co-owned the restaurant. Disturbing details of 911 calls with Kimberly Yacone’s stepson reveal the shocking moments that led to her death. According to the criminal complaint, Kimberly Yacone’s stepson received a call from his sister who resides in New York, in which she expressed their father told her he shot Kimberly. Kimberly Yacone’s stepson, who resides in New Mexico, drove to his father’s home to find his stepmom, Kimberly’s, body in a pool of blood. According to the criminal complaint, Kimberly Yacone suffered two gunshot wounds to the face and back after a domestic dispute. A Winchester 12-gauge pump action shotgun was found in the food pantry in the kitchen. Deputies determined the shotgun located in the pantry was found to have back-blast residue on the barrel, indicating close contact when the weapon was fired.Deputies said, when they arrived on scene, they found Robert Yacone located at the residence, on the balcony, outside of the bedroom. Robert Yacone reportedly returned to their residence shortly after the shooting. According to the criminal complaint, Robert Yacone is currently being treated at a hospital for multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies said Yacone made remarks to deputies that he was armed with a gun before charging toward them. As a result, deputies fired multiple gunshots at Yacone. It was later determined that Yacone was not armed. According to the criminal complaint, this isn’t Robert Yacone’s first run-in with the law; he was convicted of child abuse May 2014.Kimberly Yacone was also a member of the Doña Ana County Republican Party Executive Committee. The Republican Party of New Mexico sent KOAT a statement:”This was a real tragedy, and our hearts go out to Kim’s family and friends,” said Kim Skaggs, RPNM Executive Director and Chair of the Doña Ana County GOP and the entire community. All of us express our sympathies, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Kim’s family and friends.”Yacone is charged with first-degree murder. The case is still under investigation.
