Want to indulge in one of summer’s top treats?
Head to SomiSomi and select a filling for your goldfish-shaped waffle cone or sundae, maybe custard, red bean paste or Nutella. Then pick a flavor of soft serve — pink guava just joined the lineup — to crown that, along with toppings like rainbow sprinkles or macaron bits.
That’s the ah-boong, a Korean dessert from a 6-year-old company expanding in the Bay Area.
The newest SomiSomi shop has opened in the Berryessa BART district in the growing Market Park San Jose center, and two Peninsula locations are in the works.
The next to open, perhaps as soon as this week, will be the shop at 440 University Ave., in Palo Alto, in a space formerly occupied by CREAM. In the coming weeks the San Mateo one will take over a downtown spot at 134 South B St. There’s also a San Francisco shop opening at 1350 Fourth St.
The four additions more than double SomiSomi’s footprint in the Bay Area. Existing locations are at Main Street Cupertino, Stoneridge/Pleasanton and Westfield Valley Fair/Santa Clara.
Founded in 2016, SomiSomi also operates shops in Southern California, Sacramento, Nevada, Washington and Texas.
Details: The new San Jose shop serves daily from noon until 10:30 p.m. most nights (until 11 on Friday-Saturday) at 1477 Berryessa Road; www.somisomi.com
